How to better manage stress to mind your health
Stress can trigger a host of health conditions later in life. In fact, stress is known to be an underlying factor when it comes to Alzheimer’s, stroke and heart attacks. In other words, if you would like to reduce your chances of falling victim to these health issues in your old age, it is important to take action now. Here are some tips to aid you in better managing your stress to mind your health and wellbeing.
Look after your mind
Healthy mind, healthy body. Healthy body, healthy mind. Yoga, meditation, Pilates – basically anything that incorporates both mental and physical aspects can be excellent for managing stress and boosting physical health. A bit of quiet ‘me-time’ every day is also a must.
Only do your best
Perfectionism is a one-way ticket to worry, frustration and health problems. Always do your best, but know when to walk away from something that is sapping you of all of your energy and yet still not producing the desired results.
Strive to be more organised
Prioritise daily tasks and keep lists. Taking simple steps towards being more organised can aid in reducing mental clutter and keeping your stress levels more manageable.
Appreciate yourself
We all tend to be exceptionally hard on ourselves when things don’t go as planned, and yet don’t even give a thought to congratulating ourselves when things do go as we’d hoped. Make an effort to appreciate yourself and give yourself a pat on the back whenever it is deserved.
Love
Relationships are powerful things. It is amazing how loving and being loved in return can boost health and wellbeing. Studies have shown that we are less stressed when we are in love.
Change your mind-set
Being more positive won’t eliminate stress from your life, but it can make it easier to cope with. A resilient, optimistic attitude is key to controlling the ill effects of stress and anxiety on your health.
Put things into perspective
How much is that work presentation really going to matter five years down the line? Is it really worth sacrificing your wellbeing over? Put things into perspective and you’re much less likely to stress about them.
Make your health a priority. Further down the line you’ll be so very glad that you did.
